David qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1981 and became a Partner in Gilbert & Caswell in 1987 where he
had trained. As Partner he progressively assumed succession of the businessand developed activity across a
wide spectrum, initially with residential, care home and nursing home bias and then with a focus on
pharmaceutical manufacturing and research facilities. Over time Gilbert & Caswell developed into a
multi-disciplinary consultancy and David routinely led projects with complex client needs.
In 2011 David bought into Wilson & Partners founded in 1968, then a purely mechanical and electrical
engineering consultancy with an office in Orpington. With David’s introduction Wilson & Partners has evolved
into a multi-disciplinary consultancy offering building surveying, civil and structural design services around a
mechanical and electrical engineering core. The business now operates from a principal design office based
in Canterbury and Head Office in London, close to London Bridge.
David is passionate about design and project delivery and relishes having the chance to make positive
difference through design, particularly in the early stages of a scheme. David’s view is that the industry is as
much about people as design capability and he has a focus on development of individuals within the business
as it evolves, as well as an emphasis on client service. He has involvement with charities such as Heart of the
City and C.R.A.S.H and supports the GivX initiative which recognises input by the whole Wilson & Partners
team beyond pure project delivery.
At age 18, Lex enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship scheme and qualified as a fully registered JIB electrician 3 years later and quickly developed into an Electrical Foreman. Within 4 years, he took the role of Contract Manager in a performing arts lighting company, running projects all over the UK. After that he moved on to a local M&E company as an Electrical Supervisor, running a large team of engineers on several high-profile projects over the span of five years.
It was following this experience that Lex decided to move into Design Consultancy. Self-motivated, he embarked in expanding his knowledge base at London South Bank University and four years later, he joined Wilson & Partners. After 18 years in the construction industry, Lex has developed into an experienced team leader and runs the engineering team in the South East.
Lex states that one of the most enjoyable aspects of his work at W&P is passing on his experience to others – and watching his colleagues develop, and in turn see the company gain strength and experience. Additionally, he enjoys developing client relationships, forging new connections and ensuring our clients have support all the way through their projects. This pursuit of excellence helps improve project delivery and provide smoother experiences for both the client and the engineers.
